Federal Computer Week is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Federal 100 awards program, which recognizes individuals in government and industry who have played pivotal roles in the federal information technology community.

Deadline: Dec. 11.

If your customer looks good, you look good.

Budget Formulation wiki at the OMB

It seems that the OMB has a Budget Formulation wiki. You have to be a civil servant or one of their contractors to participate, but the rest of us can follow up with what is happening. The wiki and content management system was architected by Netspective.

Federal Computer Week has put out a call for nominations for their Rising Star awards. This is a great chance for federal contractors to make their customer look good. Nominate your customer!

Chris Dorobek at the Social Media Club

Chris Dorobek spoke at the Social Media Club last night about the use of social media by federal agencies He said that while adoption is slow, and the civil service is doubly risk averse in an election year, some agencies were moving forward.

Dorobek said it was better to talk about collaborations tools rather than social media. The more I think about this, the more I think he is correct. Social media, social networking, Web 2.0, are scary terms. Collaboration is a familiar term in government circles, and it really the point of social media. Rather than trying to explain that social media is a good thing because it promotes collaboration, it would be better to talk about collaboration tools.

1105 Rising Star Nominations 2008

The Deadline is May 2

The Rising Star Awards program recognizes young people in the government information technology community -- government or industry -- who have made a difference in their agencies or the community in the past 12 to 18 months.

There is no age limit. However, the program is aimed at individuals who are in the first third of their careers.

The award recognizes specific accomplishments, but the goal is to highlight people who have the potential to contribute to the government IT community in years to come -- true rising stars.

Rising Star Award winners will be honored at a lunch this summer. They also will be featured in one of three 1105 Government Information Group publications, depending on their field of expertise: FCW for policy/management; GCN for technology; and Washington Technology for industry.

Advice to contractors: nominate your customer.
Advice to trade associations: nominate someone who works well with your industry.
Advice to managers: nominate your staff.
Advice to politicians: nominate someone on your staff or someone in the civil service who made you look good.
