I always thought it was a failings of the school system that Arbor Day was not played up more - okay, one of many failures in public schools.

Every year, in my school as a child, we emphasized the holiday of Tu B'Shevat, and we all bought trees in Israel.

I have trees dedicated to my old dogs, my grandparents, my parents, my babysitter. Nothing in the US for Arbor Day, though.

It depends on the school and the teachers. It was never observed when I was in school, but since I have seen school children planting trees in public places on Arbor day.

What a perfect tribute for dogs to plant a tree in their memory.
